HCM CITY – DKSH Viet Nam, a subsidiary of the top Switzerland-based group DKSH, is expanding in Viet Nam with some branding changes and construction of a US$12 million distribution centre in Ha Noi that started in June.
The 12,000sq.m facility, slated for completion in mid-2011, would strengthen DKSH’s logistics service capabilities and offerings for healthcare and consumer goods, said Joerg Wolle, President&CEO, DKSH Holding Ltd during a press meeting in HCM City on Tuesday.
Also in the second quarter of 2010, Cummins DKSH Viet Nam Ltd, was established. This is a joint venture between DKSH and Cummins Inc, a leading manufacturer of diesel engines, generator sets, parts and filters.
Quang Ninh lures $2.1b in FDI
QUANG NINH — Quang Ninh attracted more than US$2.15 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first six months of the year, equivalent to 95 per cent of the year’s target.
Of the total, Mong Duong II Thermo-Electricity project had an investment of $2.1 billion, according to the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee.
In the first six months of the year, total disbursed FDI in the eastern province of Quang Ninh reached $40 million, up 14 per cent over the same period last year.
The province currently has 103 foreign-invested projects with a total registered capital of over $3.7 billion.
VIB finances Mulberry Lane clients
HA NOI — Viet Nam International Bank (VIB) and CapitaLand Hoang Thanh Co Ltd have inked a deal to make loans available to VIB customers to buy apartments at the luxury Mulberry Lane complex in Ha Noi’s Ha Dong District.
Customers with collateral will be lent up to 90 per cent of the contract price. Since the beginning of the year, VIB has extended credit support to customers looking to buy apartments at housing developments such as Spring Life and Villa Park in HCM City.
China buys 40,000 tonnes of lychees
LAO CAI — About 35,000-40,000 tonnes of lychee will be exported to markets in southwestern China through the Lao Cai international border gate this year, said Le Ngoc Hung, head of the Industry and Trade Department in northern Lao Cai Province.
In 2010, Vietnamese fresh fruit firms have found it easier to export their products to China after a trade deal was signed between Lao Cai and Hunan provinces.
In the first five months of the year, more than 25,000 tonnes of fresh lychee were exported to China through Lao Cai border gate.
Dak Lak export turnover declines
DAK LAK — Dak Lak Province earned US$270 million in export turnover in the first half of the year, down 15 per cent over the same period last year as a result of falling prices, according to the Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee.
Of the total, coffee topped the export products, with turnover reaching $230 million in the first six months of the year. Coffee was followed by rubber, pepper and honey.
HCM City to host construction expo
HCM CITY — An international construction exhibition will be held in HCM City next month.
Last Friday, VIETBUILD 2010 organisers said the exhibition would be entitled “Construction and building materials real estate and interior-exterior decoration”.
This year, the exhibition will be held in two phases. In the first phase, from July 10 to 14, more than 800 firms from 22 countries – including Japan, China, South Korea, Switzerland, Singapore, Thailand, Italy, the US, France, Germany and India – will set up 2,200 booths showcasing new construction products.
Thai restaurant chain opens in south
HCM CITY – The Thai MK restaurant franchise made its debut in Viet Nam with the opening of an outlet in HCM City.
Famous for its Thai suki (a hotpot of fresh meat and vegetables), MK is a restaurant chain that offers a mixture of Thai and Chinese cuisine. It has 300 outlets in Thailand and 30 in Japan.
The first MK outlet in Viet Nam has been opened under a franchising agreement with the Gigate Corporation.
Chinamac Fair 2010 to kick off in HCM City
HCM CITY — The 8th Chinamac Fair will be held at the Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Centre (SECC) in HCM City from July 28-31.
On show will be Chinese machinery and equipment used in construction, transportation, agriculture, garments, packing and the chemical and electronics industries.
About 250 manufacturing enterprises from China will attend the event.
The fair is being organised by the Viet Nam Advertisement and Fair Exhibition Co (Vietfair), China Light Industrial Corp for Foreign Economic and Technical Co-operation and Viet Trieu-Hong Kong-Guangdong International Exhibition Ltd Co.
Textile exports to US see 20 per cent rise
HA NOI — Viet Nam earned US$2.75 billion in textile exports to the US in the first half of the year, an increase of 20 per cent over the same period last year, according to the Viet Nam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas).
In June alone, the country’s textile exports to the US reached $550 million.
The export price for a number of textile products has recently increased 10 to 15 per cent over the same period last year.
In 2010, Viet Nam plans to earn $10.5 billion in textile exports.
Central Binh Thuan Trade Fair 2010 opens
BINH THUAN — Binh Thuan Trade Fair 2010 in Phan Thiet in the central province of Binh Thuan winds up today.
The event was co-organised by Binh Thuan Provincial Industry and Trade Department, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Department and CIAT Advertising and Trade Fair Joint Stock Co.
The exhibition attracted enterprises from Binh Thuan and a number of northern provinces and cities.
On display were products such as food, household goods, handicrafts, electronics, telecommunications and fashion. — VNS
