Denmark seeks to export technologies

(15-09-2006)

HCM CITY — A trade mission headed by Danish Deputy Prime Minister Bendt Bendtsen visited HCM City yesterday to discuss technology exports from Denmark.

At a seminar yesterday on Danish technology, representatives from major Danish companies spoke about future co-operation with senior managers and other key representatives of Vietnamese businesses.

“Denmark will continue to support you in your search for quality solutions during the years ahead,” Bendtsen said.

Denmark is especially experienced in energy technology, and is known for its innovative methods, he said.

Bendtsen said Denmark's energy consumption level today is the same as in 1980 even though the country has experienced high economic growth since then.

Danish energy technology is one of its main export assets, he said.

Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Minister for Trade Le Danh Vinh said Denmark had played a crucial role in promoting relations between Viet Nam and the EU.

“Viet Nam appreciates Denmark's effort to oppose the anti-dumping tax imposed on Viet Nam's footwear exported to the EU,” said Vinh.

Vinh added that Denmark and Viet Nam had signed a number of agreements, including one on investment promotion and protection and double taxation in the early 1990s.

Heightened co-operation

Chairwoman of HCM City's People's Council Pham Phuong Thao received Danish Deputy Prime Minister Bendt Bendtsen yesterday in a visit to heighten economic co-operation.

On behalf of HCM City, she thanked Denmark for its assistance in many sectors during Viet Nam's renewal period.

She complimented the strength of Danish enterprises in industrial sectors of energy, infrastructure, sea port and foodstuff processing, stressing that HCM City looks to expand in those areas, especially investment and production development at Quang Trung Software City and Sai Gon High-Tech Park.

Mr Bendtsen affirmed his country's support of Viet Nam, and hoped that the WTO admission process runs smoothly.

He was satisfied with the results of commercial development and investment of Danish enterprises in HCM City, adding that an increasing number of enterprises are turning their heads toward the Vietnamese market. — VNS
