Then, of course, this is April 1st, aka "April Fools Day", so it's a safe bet I made that story up. However, what isn't a joke is Tiger won his first 'real' tournament since returning full-time to the PGA Tour. OK, the Arnold Palmer Invitational isn't exactly a screaming nightmare of an event, and anytime you're around Arnie, it's a bonus. But a win is a win, so we have to give Tiger credit for getting back on the A-list again. For a while, the golf world worried he might become another David Duval. One of the cable sports channels has been showing past Masters tournaments and I gotta tell ya, I can never get enough of looking at Augusta National. But something struck me while watching the … [Read more...]

Teed Of (12-06-2011)

with Robert Bicknell Well, it took around 12 years but I finally had the opportunity to play golf at BoChang Dong Nai once again. The last time was while I worked for Thu Duc from 1998 - 2002 and, at that time, Dong Nai was only 18 holes and the "C" course still in the planning stages. The event that brought me back to the club was "Bar Wars" organised by Craig Brogan over at Phatty's Sports Bar. Apparently, Craig sets up many different tournaments during a year and attracts a good crowd. Driving down the entry road, I was once again enthralled by the rubber trees. I cannot help but wonder what it would be like to just wander around in there for a week or so. It seems so peaceful. A few staff remembered me and got the word out to management who came to say hello, which was nice. The "B" course welcomed me back like an old friend. It's been a long time, but I remembered most of the holes despite many trees having matured quite a bit over the years. It's a very good layout and even the … [Read more...]
