HCMC opens photo exhibition on wild birds Sarus Crane photos are made by photographer Tang A Pau. (Source: WAR) Wildlife at Risk (WAR) and the Youth Cultural House of Ho Chi Minh City opened a photo exhibition under title "Wild birds in mating season" at HCMC Youth Cultural House on January 24. Over 130 photos sized of 40X60cm, which were made by photographer Tang A Pau. Through images, the author wants not only to show the beauties and unique characteristics of each kind of birds in Vietnam’s forests but also call everyone to take action in protecting wild birds and nature in Vietnam. The highlight of the exhibition is a collection of Sarus Crane photos. According to the IUCN Red List of threatened species, Sarus Crane is a kind of endangered bird whose life is threatened. Documentary film on Vietnam's longest river aired A scene from the film. A documentary film on Dong Nai River which is recognized as the longest river in Vietnam is being aired on HTV9 channel starting on September 23. The TV series 120 episodes (10 minute each) will bring audiences to a trip exploring the beauty of the river, its environmental economic value, as well as reflecting the living of local people along river banks. The film crew hopes the movie will raise the people's awareness of environmental protection. The Dong Nai River runs through provinces and cities, including Lam Dong ,Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City. Water quality of Dong Nai River affects 20 million residents living in the southern region. Pilot program to train nurses for work in Germany At a press briefing in Hanoi on January 9, organized by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), a pilot program was introduced to send Vietnamese nurses to work in Germany. Andreas Schneider, Deputy Country Director of GIZ in Vietnam said at the press briefing that there was a huge demand for nurses in Germany at the moment. Accordingly, GIZ and the Department of Overseas Labor Management under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, will cooperate to send Vietnamese nurses to Germany. Vietnam is the first Asian nation to send nurses to a European country. 17th Vietnam Film Festival awards announced

The 17th Vietnam Film Festival ended at the Sao Mai Theater in Tuy Hoa City in the central coastal province of Phu Yen, evening of December 17. Silver Lotus awards go to representatives of three film crews. (Photo: Sggp) The festival presented 108 cinematographic works to compete in various categories such as movies, videos, documentaries, science and cartoons for the Golden Lotus Award. A seminar on the Vietnamese movie industry was held morning of same day. Accordingly, a movie consultant board will be established in the near future with support of movie insiders such as Phu Yen Province, Galaxy Studio, The National Cinema Center, Vietnam Film Studio and Ly Huynh Studio. The festival, which will run through January 27, features around 200 booths introducing tea products from trade villages, along with other specialities in Dai Tu district. The highlights of the event are a tea night and a contest for tea processors. Numerous cultural and arts activities are also being held during the festival including performances of Then singing (a traditional art form of the Tay ethnic minority people in northwestern Vietnam) with handmade ‘tinh’ guitars, which have only two or three strings, and an arts exchange. Lang Son hosts National ‘Then’ Singing Festival

Nhan Dan - The fourth National Then Singing Festival will be held in Lang Son city from November 2 - 6 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as part of the ministry's effort to seek UNESCO recognition for the art form as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. The event will bring together hundreds of Then artists from nine northern provinces, including Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, Lao Cai and Dien Bien. 'Then' singing is a traditional art form of the Tay ethnic minority people in northwestern Vietnam and is most popular in Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son and Tuyen Quang provinces. Photo exhibition features Vietnamese rare birds

(VOV) - A photo exhibition entitled – Wild Birds in Mating Season – by photographer Tang A Pau will be held on January 24th - 28th at the city Youth Cultural House in HCM City aiming to promote wild bird conservation. The event is being organised by the Wildlife at Risk (WAR) organisation in collaboration with the Youth Cultural House of Ho Chi Minh city. Over 130 photos capture vivid images of the birds, especially during mating season. The exhibition shows the beauty and unique moments of wild birds in the forest hoping to inspire the audience to take action in protecting wild birds and the nature of Vietnam. Over 130 photos were taken in different national parks and reserve areas throughout Vietnam. Each photo is an artwork carefully taken by Pau.
