Toyota Classics returns to Ho Chi Minh City The 14th Toyota Classics is expected to leave a deep impression on Ho Chi Minh City audiences on the night of November 11. Under the baton of Canadian conductor Charles Olivieri-Munroe, who has been the NCPT's chief conductor since 1997, the 175-year-old philharmonic will play world famous classical music. In Ha Noi on November 5, their repertoire will include the Intermezzo from the opera Goyescas by W. A. HCMC Opera House hosts Toyota Classics Concert

The 14th Toyota Classics Concert will take place at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House on Nov 3. Toyota Classics 2011 poster. Event organizers, the Toyota Motor Corporation and the Vietnam Performing Arts Center, said in a press release that this year's event will feature the return of the Northeast German Philharmonic Orchestra. Local diva joins visiting orchestra for City concert

The Northeast German Philharmonic Orchestra will perform with artists from around the world in HCM City on Nov. 3. Conducted by Thomas Dorsch, the concert will feature 15 masterpieces played by pianist Pamela Nicholson and violinist Vasco Vassilev, accompanied by Vietnamese soprano Pham Thi Duyen Huyen. The orchestra, founded in 1993 with the merging of the Greifswald and Stralsund theatres, has become internationally acclaimed. Today, Toyota Motor Vietnam officially introduced the Toyota Classics 2011, which will take place in Ho Chi Minh City Theatre on November 3. Work begins on major expressway segment Construction of an 18.7-km section of the Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway, which will run through HCM City and Long An Province, began on Saturday. The project includes three intersections at Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway and HCM City-Trung Luong Expressway, National Highway No 1A, and National Highway No 50, according to the developer Expressway Viet Nam Expressway Corporation (VEC). With a total length of 57.1 km, the Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway runs through Long An Province's Ben Luc and Can Giuoc districts; Binh Chanh, Nha Be and Can Gio Districts in HCM City and Nhon Trach and Long Thanh districts in Dong Nai Province. The section is part of the national north-south expressway. The road includes a total of 20km of bridges, including the 3-km long Binh Khanh Bridge that crosses Soai Rap River and the 3.2-km Phuoc Khanh Bridge over the Long Tau River. Youths build flagpole at north-east outpost island

The 15-m high pole is being built at the highest point of the island (188 meters high from the sea level). Sovereignty flagpole to be erected in northern Vietnam

The construction of a national flagpole that will serve as a marker of Vietnam’s marine sovereignty kicked off on Saturday in an island district off a northern province. The Central Committees of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnamese Student Association started building a national flagpole to reiterate the country’s sovereignty on Tran Island, located in Co To District off the northern province of Quang Ninh, yesterday. The flagpole, which will stand 22.6 meters high, is estimated to cost about VND1.3 billion (US$60,583). Its investors are the chapter of the Communist Youth Union in Quang Ninh Province and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, while its construction contractor is Dong Bac Corp. under the Ministry of Defense. Rural bridge building programme benefits Thai Nguyen

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCM CYU)’s chapter in the northern province of Thai Nguyen is constructing 10 bridges in rural areas of the locality. The event is part of activities to celebrate the 84th founding anniversary of the HCM CYU and to respond to the new-style rural area building movement of the local youth. Work commenced on the first bridge in Binh Thanh commune, Dinh Hoa district, which will be 18 metres in length and 4 metres in width. The project, with a total investment of around 1.5 billion VND, is scheduled to become operational in October 2015. The province’s HCM CYU has presented 20 scholarships and 100 notebooks to poor students studying in primary and junior high schools in Binh Thanh commune. The awards presentation ceremony was held at Phuong Dong University in Hanoi on March 19, as part of activities to celebrate the upcoming 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132) in Hanoi. Online exchange for overseas Vietnamese students to be held this weekend

The Vietnam National Union of Students will cooperate with some other agencies to organize an online exchange for Vietnamese students studying overseas later this weekend. The event, to celebrate the establishment of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931), will be held by the Vietnam National Union of Students, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the committee for overseas Vietnamese party cells.
