Honouring 100 Exemplary Entrepreneurs with Thanh Giong Cup

Remarking on the roles of entrepreneurs and the business community in Vietnam, VCCI President Vu Tien Loc said entrepreneurs themselves have played an important role in leading Vietnam from a weak and backward economy to a middle-income one.

A solemn ceremony to celebrate the Vietnam Entrepreneurs' Day 2013 took place at the Hanoi Cultural Palace today (October 11, 2013). The ceremony also honoured and awarded Thanh Giong Cup to 100 exemplary entrepreneurs who had excellent achievements in production and business activities, made significant contributions to the State Budget, actively took part in social activities, and created much employment in 2010 - 2012. Attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh, leaders of central and local organs, and nearly 1,000 businesspeople. Though she’s never competed in an international beauty contest, 21-year-old model Huynh Thi Thanh Tuyen is confident she’ll do well at the 36th Miss Bikini International competition in China next month. Vietnam’s first Miss Bikini International contestant says she’s ready to win. “The judges will not be disappointed by the first representative from Vietnam,” she said. But Tuyen harbors no illusions about what the contest is all about. “I’ve never thought that I’m going to the contest for cultural exchange,” Tuyen said. “I’m coming to show myself off.” Tuyen said though the contest would be full of beautiful models, she believes that if she prepares thoroughly and does her best, she’ll win. A fashion night featuring the changes of Vietnamese ao dai over time will be organized in Ho Chi Minh City on August 26. Fourth-placed Vietnamese Supermodel 2009 to compete abroad

The fourth-placed contestant at the Vietnamese Supermodel 2009, Nguyen Thai Ha, will represent Vietnam at the Miss Tourism Queen International 2009 pageant at the city of Zhengzhou, China, from August 8 to 30. Preparations for Miss Universe contestant nearly complete

The Vietnamese designer Nguyen Cong Tri and ABC Ao Dai will take care of costumes for the Vietnamese contestant, Vo Hoang Yen, at the 2009 Miss Universe pageant over August 1-23. Designer Cong Tri will prepare 12 dresses for Yen for some selected events, while ABC will complete the ao dai for the traditional costume event. Discussing the dresses, Tri said: "Yen possess a good body and white skin, and all my designs for her at the pageant will probably make her more charming among the other contestants. "The highlights will be two evening dresses for the final night with my best design and best materials." Meanwhile, Dinh Van Tho, a spokesperson for ABC, said: "We will keep all the traditional beautiful designs on the ao dai for Yen, but we will also add some modern patterns and use new materials to make it fit modern fashion." Modern lighting marks advancement and celebration for Hanoi

Many central locations in Hanoi will be decorated with lights, trees, flowers and banners to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the city this October. VND 42 billion (2.2 million USD) has been invested into the lighting system alone. Magnificent lights reflect off Hoan Kiem Lake. VNPT and UDIC join hands

A cooperation agreement was signed by the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and the Urban Infrastructure Development Investment Corporation (UDIC) on December 3rd. Under the agreement, VNPT will be responsible for building an infrastructure network and providing information, and postal and telecommunication services to UDIC's buildings, infrastructure projects and urban and industrial zones. Historic flooding leaves 49 dead or missing

Non-stop heavy rains since October 30 have left 49 dead and missing in northern and central provinces. Hanoi and Ha Tinh province were hardest hit each reporting 17 people dead or missing, while the provinces of Hoa Binh, Bac Giang, Ninh Binh, Vinh Phuc, Nghe An, Thai Nguyen, Quang Binh and Phu Tho lost one to two persons each. In Hanoi, nearly 13,000 houses were flooded, and more than 50,627 ha of summer crops were completely destroyed and 9,000 ha aquaculture operations were submerged. Heavy rains also flooded several power transformer stations including Ba La, Dong Bong, Cau Dien, and Me Tri, cutting power to many areas in the city. Total material losses were estimated at VND3,000 billion. Vingroup to study Tao Dan underground parking project

Vingroup plans to build the project on a build, operate and own (BOO) basis with its own investment in six months. However, if Vingroup is not selected as the investor, fails to finish the study or submit a feasibility study, the group must pay all fees of the study themselves, while the city will consider Vingroup to be out of the project. In November 2014, the State-owned construction company, Vietnam Urban and Industrial Zone Development Investment Corporation (IDICO), withdrew from the project due over financial issues. HCMC to offer incentives to parking project investors

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has assigned the Department of Transport to draft preferential policies for investors in parking projects, which are needed to meet the increasing demand for parking in the city. The authorities tasked the department with the incentive policy drafting at a meeting held on Thursday with concerned agencies and the investors of underground parking projects in the city. At the meeting, the department reported to the authorities about the situation of projects of underground parking lots for cars and motorbikes in the city’s central area. All SOEs under construction ministry to go public this year

Van Ly Dang Van Long, head of the Corporate Management Department at the ministry, said the ministry currently manages nine corporations and ten enterprises with 100% State ownership. The corporations are Building Materials Corporation No. 1 (FiCO), Construction Corporation No. 1 (CC1), LILAMA Corporation (Lilama), Construction Machinery Corporation (COMA), Song Da Corporation, Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (VICEM), Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Vietnam Urban and Industrial Zone Development Investment Corporation (IDICO) and Vietnam National Construction Consultant Corporation (VNCC). The ministry has completed necessary legal procedures for equitizing all these SOEs. Two contractors banned from road projects

Le Anh The Ministry of Transport in a decision issued on July 24 banned Consulting and Construction Ltd., Co. 747 and Design Consultant Enterprise, an arm of Investment Construction Joint Stock Company No.10 under the Vietnam Urban and Industrial Zone Development Investment Corporation (IDICO). The two consultants are found by the ministry to have violated regulations in supervising the project's quality and progress and failed to perform their contracts duly. Apart from these two contractors, over then other units relating to the construction of the road have also had their works reviewed to guarantee the project's quality. Equitisation gains momentum

HA NOI (VNS) — The Ministry of Construction will complete equitisation of all its enterprises next year. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had accepted plans offered in a joint proposal from the ministry and the Ministry of Finance. Accordingly, Dung required the construction ministry to submit equitisation plans for the Viet Nam Machinery Erection Corporation and the Construction Machinery Corporation by the end of the year. He also agreed to equitise the Da River Corporation and the Housing and Urban Development Corporation by the end of next year. The three corporations together with the Urban and Industrial Zone Development Investment Corporation will be responsible for equitising their subsidiaries and their parent companies.
