Danish ambassador, expert receive MPI award

Nhan Dan Online – Danish Ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen and Professor Finn Tarp from the University of Copenhagen received the Ministry of Planning and Investment Medal of Honour at a ceremony in Hanoi on January 14.

The medals are awarded by the MPI and the Government to recognise the significant contributions made by Ambassador Nielsen and Professor Tarp, the director of the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), to the ministry and the country’s socio-economic development at large.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh expressed his gratitude for the ambassador’s contributions. In particular, his efforts were helpful in facilitating the signing of the comprehensive partnership agreement between Denmark and Vietnam during President Truong Tan Sang’s 2013 visit, which will elevate bilateral co-operation to a new height.

He also recognised Professor Tarp’s support to the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM). The professor worked to transfer international knowledge and skills in economic research to the institute, and made precious recommendations to the Government on economic reforms, the macro-economy, international trade, the business sector, the enterprise environment, rural households and the environment.

Ambassador Nielsen and Professor Tarp thanked the MPI for its recognition and honourable titles, saying that they would continue their efforts to enhance bilateral ties for Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
